Save Your Vision Week - March 1 - March 7, 2009
The Blind Judo Foundation creates champions of blind and visually impaired children and young adults through the sport of Judo. Unfortunately blindness in the US affects over 11 million people of which there are 96,000 school age children with various forms and degrees of blindness. To remind Americans about the importance of safeguarding their eyesight, the US Congress by joint resolution approved on December 30, 1963, as amended has authorized and requested the President of the US to proclaim the first week in March of each year as "Save Your Vision Week". We do not have to wait until March of each year to remember to protect our eyes and vision by having routine eye exams. One can wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from damaging ultraviolet rays, using protective eyewear in hazardous environments, eating a healthy diet and much more.
