Dr. Woodford Van Meter's is a Professor of Opthalmology at the University of Kentucky who has been volunteering his services for the Orbis International's Flying Eye Hospital.
The World Heath Organization (WHO) estimated in 2002 that 37M people worldwide are blind and another 124M are visually impaired. Unfortunately the numbers are not getting better when in some cases visual impairment can be prevented.
The Flying Eye Hospital can accommodate not only operating room but concurrently a class room for local doctors to watch operation and/or learn from the master in eye surgery. Karla Ward of the Herald-Leader newspaper was the author of this story which can be seen at the URL above. Also Karla can be contacted at kward1@herald-leader.com should you like to learn more. This is truly an amazing story worth your time. The Blind Judo Foundation does not restore "sight" but we do restore "vision" for all who dare step onto the Judo Mat.
