Olympic Opening Ceremonies - Paralympics
Article Added 16 years ago
I had the honor of watching the Opening Ceremonies live time for the Olympics not on a US TV station but on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Channel and what a spectacular Opening it was. Even the commercials were entertaining which mentioned the Paralympics. One Sponsor was Home Depot as the "proud sponsor of the US Olympics and Paralympic Games". Visa being one of the Games sponsors showed an amputee runner and a wheelchair track athlete i.e. Paralympians. Then came the disappointment with the COKE ad which showed several Olympic athletes and then started to show "Special Olympic" athletes but no Paralympic athletes.
The Olympics / Paralympics Games do not cover "Special Olympics". Once again most Americans do not know about Paralympics and equates it with "Special Olympics" which is far from the truth. "Special Olympics" is a wonderful organization but is unrelated to the brave and courageous athletes that are Paralympians. Also it is my understanding that no US Broadcasting companies will not be covering the Paralympic Games. It is time to make changes and make sure all Americans that know about the Olympics are equally informed about the PARALYMPICS which is not Special Olympics.
