Article Added 16 years ago
Jordan Mouton started going blind at the age of eight. She was active in the sport she loved...soccer. Because of her visual impairment she needed to find a new sport to help her keep a positive and forward looking attitude...wrestling was the subsitute.
Before graduating from High School, she became ranked 6th in the State of Texas in wrestling. She was now on the hunt to find another sport that didn't rely so much on visual acuity but on developing those tactile skills.
Approximately two years ago Jordan age 16 was invited along with 34 other blind and visually impaired children to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO to be introduced to the sport of Judo. Out of 35 the group got cut to 25 children and Jordan stood out as exceptional candidate for Judo. Fortunately the US Paralympic Coach, Willy Cahill, Co-Founder of The Blind Judo Foundation was there and witnessed this young women and her desire to win.
Jordan was ultimately invited to visit Cahill's Judo Academy in San Bruno (SF area), CA. After several visits Jordan was entered in the College of SF Judo Tournament. She won first place in her weight class....this was just the start of her rise to represent the USA as the only female on the US Paralympic Judo Team competing in the 2008 Games in Beijing.
Keep your eye on this Champion as she continues to rise and represents the USA on the world stage.
