Blindness - Hybrid Cars continued
Lotus, a British automotive company has added a synthesised engine noise to dangerously quiet hybrid cars. Everyone is for eco-friendly cars to minimize the hydro-carbons being submitted today from many sources including gas and diesel fueled vehicles. The hybrids pose a threat to blind and visually impaired individuals as they traverse the city streets navigating their way to work or play. Now Lotus Engineering, a division of Lotus is equipping hybrid cars with a sound system that simulates street noises of a hydrocarbon powered car. This will not only help blind and visually impaired individuals but also sighted people including cyclist. Keep in mind blind and partially sighted people use the noise of oncoming traffic as part of the clues for when it is safe to cross the street. Not having the noise of an approaching car will really put everyone at risk. Environment issues are important however, having a sound system is imperative to life issues when transversing city streets.
