9000 Mile Historic Flight to Benefit Blind & Visually Impaired
Article Added 15 years ago
On August 31, 2009 a seasoned Powered Hang Glider pilot will take off from Monterey, CA flying north over the Golden Gate Bridge on the start of a 4 - 6 week 9000 mile journey to bring visibility of the work of The Blind Judo Foundation www.blindjudofoundation.org. His motivation are two fold:
1) set a record by transversing the USA, and 2) to seek donations, sponsors and spokespersons for the mission of the Foundation.
This is a solo unsupported flight so there will be no chase car; co-pilot, navigator, mechanic. This pilot, Imre Kabai will live in a tent and secure his fuel and food from local people. The Powered Hang Glider is capable of 55 MPH and 200 miles on a tank of gas.
His whole family is sighted and are learning the sport of Judo. They realize the benefits blind and visually impaired children and young adults learn from this tactile sport and want to make a difference in supporting the work and mission of the Blind Judo Foundation.
Regular updates on Imre's journey will be provided as he plans to stop at Kitty Hawk where the Wright Brother in 1903 took their first flight; and the Otay Mesa in San Diego where John Montgomery flew the first glider (non-powered in 1893). Other planned stops or fly-overs include Monument Valley, Golden Gate Bridge, Statue of Liberty and other aviation and historical sites as weather permits.
Donations are always welcomed and can be made at either URL.
