100 year old Fauja Singh Breaks Guinness World Marathon Record
Indian-born Brit Fauja Singh set a new Guinness World Record in Sunday’s Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon for oldest person to ever run a marathon at the age of 100 years old. Singh, nicknamed Turban Tornado, finished the race in a little more than eight hours, about six hours after the winner, Kenya's Kenneth Mungara. Singh started running at the age of 89, has run eight marathons including this one, and broken records for various distances in the 90 plus categories too. He carried the torch during the torch relay for the 2004 Athens Games. Singh is 5 feet 8, 115 pounds, and credits his health to regular exercise, not drinking alcohol or smoking, and eating a vegetarian diet rich in curries, and drinking tea.
