If it just froze, maybe you should exchange it for another one at the store, could be a manufacturer's problem. That's the easiest way to exchange it if it was just bought, otherwise you would have to go through the manufacturer's warranty and do the whole mailing thing. Or if you got tbe store's warranty they will handle it for you.
Why wouldn't you want to tell your parents? They would probably rather know!
