There will be no marathon matches for Nicolas Mahut at the U.S. Open. The Frenchman who lost a 70-68 fifth set to John Isner at Wimbledon in the longest match ever fell Saturday in qualifying at Flushing Meadows. The 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 loss to Julio Silva means Mahut will not be in the main draw for singles, though he's not going home quite yet.
