The California women's tennis team opens the 2009 spring season with its highest preseason ranking in program history. The Golden Bears were ranked No. 2 in the first ITA NCAA Division I Women's Team Rankings and received one first-place vote. Northwestern is ranked No. 1 with 17 first-place votes and defending NCAA champion UCLA is ranked third, receiving 14 first-place votes.
