Monfils reaches 2nd round in Valencia (AP) Gael Monfils beat Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina 6-3, 6-4 Monday in the first round of the Valencia Open. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain and Mischa Zverev of Germany also advanced. Garcia-Lopez moved on when Steve Darcis of Belgium retired with a right wrist injury after losing the first set 6-4.
