Shellie Onstead gave her California staff a decidedly U.S. national team feel when the Golden Bears head coach hired 2008 Olympians Carrie Lingo and Lauren Crandall as assistant coaches. Onstead has worked with the U.S. players the past few years in her role as an assistant coach on the national team. In addition, former Golden Bears assistant coach Kelly Knapp, who had previously announced she was leaving, will remain at Cal as a volunteer assistant coaCrandall and Lingo have joined Cal on limited appointments. They will work in Berkeley until December, when they will rejoin the national team at its southern California training facility. Both officially start in early August, though Crandall and Onstead won't return from the current U.S. trip to Europe until after Aug. 6.
