Cal junior rower James Long-Lerno was named the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year, the conference office announced on June 3. Long-Lerno became a key member of Cal's second varsity 8+ after joining the Golden Bears program this year. The 6-6 Seal Beach, Calif., product rowed in the six seat when Cal took second place in the 2V8+ grand final in the Pac-10 Championships, and he helped the 2V8+ defeat Stanford in the Big Row.
