winter in the gym
You can tell from talking to other people at other gyms and on this message board too, that some gyms have their gymnasts practice in really cold temps, which can cause injuries not to mention it's uncomfortable. Here's an article on how kids have less excercise in the winter b/c it's cold and so they don't go outside to play / exercise much like they do in the summer and so they should go to the gyms: "Winter months thwart kids' exercise" - http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/articles/2006/11/19/news/top/65af37f6af73ae658625722b0011e986.txt ...According to the article they go to the gymnastics gyms b/c it's an indoor sport and supposedly it's not as cold inside than outside...prob/ at least not in the gym the reporter did the article on. The reporters should go to different gymnastics clubs and report on the temperatures during the winter months. My club keeps our gym warm during the winter months, but the state is paying clubs to do the state and regional meets and they don't heat the gym for the competition...so it's like 59 degrees farenheit or lower....now there's a story! What do you guys think?

it's ridiculous and callous how some gyms are in this business and they are so ignorant to think that it is okay for gymnasts to work out in 60 degrees or lower temps so that they can just make more money...they are going to lose their gymnasts to switching to more educated gym owners. my new gym keeps it at 68 degrees minimum....so much better and healthier.

Is there no rule / regulation for gym temperatures in the States? That is callous. Even if it is a private gymnastics club, there should be some basic human rights protected.

I just found out that for competitions the USAG are in charge of, they ask for the arena to be somewhere around 72 degrees. Interesting. Guess that is just for the higher level competitions / more major competitions.
