that's cool!
it does happen a lot that gymnasts do diving, and pole vaulting too. all flying, you know! :D here's another story on a gymnast doing diving:
"Gymnastics gives 'Cats diver her edge" -
http://www.greeleytrib.com/article/20061206/SPORTS/112060063/-1/rss03
Lehmann just discovered the sport in a little different way than most do.A gymnast since she was little, Lehmann was given the opportunity to see what she could do on a diving board when, out of the blue, a group of girls invited her to practice with them when she was swimming.
With only a little hesitation, Lehmann tried it and hasn't looked back since.
"I was like, 'Oh no,'" Lehmann said. "But they insisted, so I did it, and it was just like gymnastics -- kind of."
The diving coach, a former gymnast too, compares the 2 sports:
Greeley diving coach Ben Wells, 22, who used to be a gymnast himself and coached the sport on one level or another since he was 15 years old, said the two sports are similar with one glaring difference.
"They have a lot of the same forms, but diving is much more technical with the abilities of twisting with the flips," Wells said. "It's body awareness in the air. A lot of it is the same except landing on your head.
"They prefer you not do that in gymnastics."
Lehmann agrees.
We have divers practicing in our gym, doing flips in the pit and on the trampolines, kind of like in the pool in terms of air direction and flying, but you go for landing on your feet instead of head-first. :D
