Former Brown gymnast and 2008 Beijing Olympic hopeful Alicia Sacramone is in her first year as an assistant coach with the Brown gymnastics team. Sacramone recently gave up her eligibility to compete with the Bears and turned professional in September. She set school records on the vault, floor, and also in the all-around. She became the first gymnast in the history of the Ivy League to finish first on every event and win the all-around at the Ivy Classic, and also set a new Ivy Classic record in the all-around and tied the record on the vault. She was the NE Regional Floor Champion and qualified to NCAA Nationals. Most recently, in the individual event finals at the 2007 World Championships held in Stuttgart, Germany, Sacramone earned a silver medal on the floor exercise and a bronze medal on the vault. With a score of 15.325 on the floor in the team competition, Sacramone also helped secure a gold medal for the U.S. women's team. This was just the second world team title in U.S. history and the first won outside of the United States. At the 2007 Visa Championships held in August in San Jose, CA, Sacramone earned a gold medal on the vault and bronze medals on the floor exercise and beam. Sacramone earned two silver medals at the 2006 World Championships in team and vault competition. In 2005 and 2006, she was the U.S. National champion on vault and floor exercise, and at the 2005 World Championships, Sacramone won the floor exercise title and finished third in the vault. She also earned the title of USA Gymnastics' Sportswoman of the Year.
