More info on the USA Olympic Trials on NBC on TV and on the Internet: [QUOTE] NBC UNIVERSAL'S BEIJING GAMES COVERAGE: NBC Universal will present more than 3,600 hours of coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the most ambitious single media project in history and more than the combined total of every Summer Olympics ever televised in the United States. The Beijing Games begin August 8, with unprecedented around-the-clock coverage and, for the first-time ever in the U.S., live streaming Olympic broadband video coverage, 2,200 hours in all. Over the 17 days of the Beijing Games (Aug. 8-24), NBC Universal will present more than 3,600 hours of coverage highlighted by NBC in primetime which will feature live swimming, gymnastics and beach volleyball, despite the 12-hour time difference from the U.S.'s eastern time zone to Beijing. Paralympic Games vs. Olympic Games and NBC Coverage
Quote:
The second largest sporting event in the world are the Paralympic Games. These Games are held at the same venue as the regular Olympics, employing the same rules, covered under the IOC and the USOC except they do not get the media coverage as the regular Olympics. The Olympic Village in Beijing closes on August 27. Three days later the Village opens (Aug 30) to Paralympians from around the world. So many think the Paralympics is synonymous with "Special Olympics". Nothing could be farther from the truth. These athletes have physical disabilities only. In the case of the US Paralympic Judo Team, these athletes are blind and visually impaired. In fact Judo was introduced at the 1964 Olympics in Japan. For the Paralympic Games it was introduced in 1988 Games. The only Judo team representing America that has ever won Gold for America is the US Paralympic Judo Team. That might change this year but as of July '08 the record stands. So why is there not going to be any media / broadcast coverage by NBC Universal or others? Why have most Americans never heard of the Paralympics? These Paralympic athletes have to qualify just as regular Olympians but why isn't there more media attention to these brave and courageous athletes representing the USA? Respectfully, Ron Peck The Blind Judo Foundation www.blindjudofoundation.org
