Jake Arrieta's bid to become the second pitcher to throw consecutive no-hitters has ended with a broken-bat single on his fifth pitch. The bat of Milwaukee's Jonathan Villar shattered as he blooped an opposite-field liner over third base on a 2-2 sinker leading off Thursday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Cincinnati's Johnny Vander Meer is the only big leaguer to pitch no-hitters in consecutive starts, beating the Boston Braves and Brooklyn in June 1938.
