
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell says he will handle the duties of pitching coach for at least two days after the firing of Juan Nieves. The Red Sox fired Nieves on Thursday during an off-day. Farrell said the Red Sox are ''working through some logistics'' with their new hire, and said they ''hope to have an announcement sometime later tomorrow.'' Farrell, a right-hander, went 36-46 in an eight-year big league career with Cleveland, the Angels and Detroit. He was Boston's pitching coach from 2007 to 2010 before leaving to take over as manager of the Blue Jays.
