San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom's latest friendly mayoral bet is with Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck for the SF Giants vs Texas Rangers in the 2010 MLB World Series. Newsom said on Tuesday that the losing mayor has to wear the opposing team's jersey and fly to the winning city to perform community service with low-income children. A win for all. The bet also includes an exhange of foods - if SF Giants win, Cluck will send Texas-style barbecue for Newsom; if Texas Rangers win, Newsom will send Ghirardelli chocolate and sourdough bread for Cluck.
Apparently some were expecting a more extravagant wager - Newsom spokesman Tony Winniker told the San Francisco Chronicle that it should be kept in perspective - the mayors are trying to do some good and have fun - the real contest is on the field.
