Until they came on the floor, the Podium Training for both Men and women was more like, "Let's try the apparatus, see the venue, but not show all we intend to do at the actual event". Entered the USA Women's Team and it all turned into "Come, Hit and Go!"
The current World Champions will be difficult to beat! This is a homogenous, motivated, very talented and indeed very well prepared Team. However, there was a surprise! Judging by the order of the performances, neither the current overall World Champion Chellsie Memmel, nor Nastia Lukin, (Silver overall, gold on Beam and A. Bars in Montreal'05), are going to try to defend their titles! (Lukin has problem with her ankle).
Jana Bieger (17) was the only one of "the old Team" who did all the four apparatus during the Podium; the World Champion on Floor Alicia Sacramone skipped the A. Bars.
The Americans were solid on all apparatus, with added twists to their saltos on Beam, a number of Arabian somersaults and triple twists and on Floor and no less impressive Vault and A. Bars.
On Vault all the gymnasts demonstrated steady Yourchenko 1
