Shavahn Church practices at Chris Waller's gym GymJam Academy in Santa Clarita (Southern California), but represents Great Britain (she has dual citizenship) since 2005. She got 5th all-around and silver on bars at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. She plans on attending UCLA. She tore her right anterior cruciate ligament in 2004, and tore her left ACL last spring. On July 16, the 18-year-old Church met with her surgeon, who confirmed that the meniscus damage she suffered in Brazil was most likely old. He also noted that, as was observed in 2004, she has only has about 35 percent of her lateral meniscus intact. Church's surgeon told her that she has a bad bone bruise and possibly some capillary damage, advised her to do extensive rehabilitation for the next six weeks, then return to check for improvement.
