Update on Shavahn Church - out of Worlds due to knee injury
Shavahn Church practices at Chris Waller's gym GymJam Academy in Santa Clarita (Southern California), but represents Great Britain (she has dual citizenship) since 2005. She got 5th all-around and silver on bars at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. She plans on attending UCLA. Her official website is actually posted on the Gym Chat visitor links page, it is http://www.shavahnchurch.com . IG did an article on her: "Church Rehabbing, Hopeful After Knee Injury" http://intlgymnast.com/news/2007/july/072007_church.html She's out of the upcoming Worlds because of a knee injury.
Church, who finished 20th all-around at the 2005 World Championships in Melbourne, injured the meniscus of her right knee at a tri-meet among Great Britain, Brazil and Canada in June in Brazil. She tore her right anterior cruciate ligament in 2004, and tore her left ACL last spring. "I'm focusing on conditioning, knee rehabilitation, a lot of beam dance and floor dance, and of course, uneven bars," Church told IG. "Oh! And not to forget, tons of schoolwork!" On July 16, the 18-year-old Church met with her surgeon, who confirmed that the meniscus damage she suffered in Brazil was most likely old. He also noted that, as was observed in 2004, she has only has about 35 percent of her lateral meniscus intact. Church's surgeon told her that she has a bad bone bruise and possibly some capillary damage, advised her to do extensive rehabilitation for the next six weeks, then return to check for improvement.

"It was obvious to me in Brazil that I needed a little more time," Church said. "Having torn both ACLs, this makes me want to be a lot more cautious in the future. I cannot afford to do anymore damage to my knees."
There's a picture of her there too doing a dance pose on floor.
