Now there is a Guide for Parents and Loved Ones of blind and visually impaired children and young adults to learn more about the sport of Judo and the benefits to be gained for all who want to build confidence and enhance independence. You can just imagine the concern of a parent when their child says they want to learn Judo. All sorts of thoughts permeate a parents mind especially as it might concern "falling." Judo is about "falling" and any parent would be protective of their child.

Now there is a Guide to help parents understand the sport that is amazingly atuned to the blind and visually impaired. Not all individuals will end up as an elite athlete but all will benefit from the discipline and tenets of Judo. Judo is not necessarily about the color or ones belt, or the medals attained along the way or even a possible trophy. Judo is about building confidence, building and developing character, learning humility, gaining respect of ones peers and learning to take responsibility--that is what Judo is about and something we all strive to achieve whether blind, visually impaired, low vision or sighted alike.
